Spring 2008 - School News

Exbourne School has had a busy beginning to the second half of the Spring Term.   The first exciting event was a Viking Day for Classes 2 & 3.  Girth the Viking paid us a visit, bringing a whole range of wonderful artefacts to handle & discuss.  The swords were a great favourite & one privileged pupil was dressed as a warrior complete with a shirt of chain mail & a huge shield.  We all wondered how he managed to stand up under the weight of it all!  In the afternoon there were a series of workshops butter making, quill writing, flour making with a stone quern, observational drawing & Viking games.

Two Year 6 pupils had an intensive two days at the Beaford Arts Centre, and another Year 6 pupil attended a Forensic Science day at Okehampton College. Enthusiastic pupils participated in the online World Maths Day until the website went into overload!  Our Year 5 pupils won an online prize of free membership to the Mathletics site. Two brave teams entered the Youth Speaks Competition organised by the Rotary Club & hosted by Shebbear College.  They covered the topics of Animal Cruelty & Recycling  the latter team coming a very commendable second.

All pupils are continuing to enjoy their weekly swimming lessons at Parklands; the newly formed Table Tennis Club run by the Okehampton group is flourishing; Year 2s enjoyed their joint Multiskills day in Okehampton; a skilled Tag Rugby team took part in the South Tawton Tournament, clocking up 16 tries.  They were brilliantly coached by two parents.

Our Easter Assembly is being planned to take place in the church on Maundy Thursday, though by the time this goes to print it will of course, have happened. Exbourne PFA organised busy Jumble Sale & are in the process of planning an Easter Fayre for Maundy Thursday.
