6 Sep 2007 - Newsletter 1

6th September 2007

Dear Parents

Welcome back to a new school year. We hope you all had an enjoyable and restful holiday.

Class 3 - reminder
Please could all children be self-sufficient with regards to writing equipment. They need a pencil case containing a good quality pen or rollerball with which they can write neatly, pencils, rubber, ruler, pencil sharpener, all named if possible. We have a good quality pen for sale in school - £1 - which takes standard cartridges. We will shortly have a high quality durable roller ball for £1.50.

Fruit
The children in Class 1 receive free fruit at break time. We?d be happy for all children in Classes 2 and 3 that would like it, to receive a piece of fruit on a daily basis. This would cost 12p per day i.e. 60p per week. If you would like this to happen for the child(ren) please sign below. For greater ease of administration the money would need to be in school on Monday for the week, and because of the nature of this, there would be no refund for absences.

Book Bags
We have purchased some bigger book bags, at a cost of £3.50 each. As well as holding books, there is room for a lunch box and drinks container in a separate compartment.

Maths homework
A reminder that support activities for Maths for this half-term?s work, are available from the office.

Yellow Pages
Once again we are collecting yellow pages, please collect from family and friends and hand into the office.

PFA ? AGM
This will take place in the school hall on Tuesday 11th September at 3.30 p.m.
There will be drinks, biscuits and a video for the children, so we would really like as many parents as possible to attend.

Football
Football practices start again this Saturday 8th September.

Family Learning
Following on from previous year?s successful Family learning event at Okehampton Primary School, another day has been arranged by the local Family Learning Activity Group.
The fun packed day will be held on Saturday October 6th and many new events as well as old favourites are included. Some of the old favourites include, storyteller, Clive Pig, Circus skills with Professor Fumble and kite making with Brookite, multisport and archery with OCRA. Other planned events include environmental arts and crafts workshop using natural materials to create works of art such as dreamcatchers. There will also be DrumCrazy, Workshop Under the Sky where local artist Jenny Hale will help children and parents investigate the natural world through painting and drawing, camping skills including building camp fires and cooking, and The Bigfoot theatre co. will be running drama workshops.
This year?s event has been funded by Okehampton Educational Foundation, Okehampton Rotary Club and Okehampton Lions. Family Learning Week presents an opportunity to try out learning in fun, non-threatening ways. Family support of a child?s learning has the biggest single impact on their educational development.
For further details and booking form pick up a leaflet at Okehampton Library or visit the Family learning website at www.campaign-for-learning.org.uk. Bookings must be made by 17th September.
